These are three tools used for sharpening two-man crosscut saws. One is a raker gauge. It is marked E. C. Atkins & Co. Indpls, Ind and has numerous patent dates from May 5, 1874 to Ja 1888. The raker teeth remove shavings that the cutter teeth have severed from the wood. For a saw to work best the raker teeth must be adjusted to type of wood and other factors. The depth of the rakers below the cutter teeth was determined by using a tool called a raker gage (gauge) or raker depth gage (gauge) (Warren Miller, Crosscut Saw Manual). This example has a dark patina and is in good used condition and all screws work, etc. About 5 1/4 x 2 ½ in size. The long tool (7 x ¾ inches) is a saw set block or set stake (marked E G Atkins & Co. Indpls, Ind) used as an anvil for hammer setting the cutter teeth. The small item is a spider or set gauge (gage) used to measure the tooth set.
