Tony, to prevent any confusion I've deleted my earlier post identifying the hem weight, since that item has now been cropped out of the photo.

There is a book on military buttons.

Check for Warren K. Tice. He was the maker and supplier of buttons to the U.S. military from 1776 up until 1865. There is some books available.

Your button is hard to match.

A thought just came to me......Could it be from a Private Naval Military School? I'm also thinking that the reason military buttons have no holes is so that the thread does not interfere with the insignia. So, could it be something other than a uniform button?

Could you please post the back side of your button?

1 1/8" seems rather large could of had been used for a draw string type of closer?

Sorry you had to go trough the trouble PBK. I’m new at this and didn’t know any better, now I know there was a better way to do it. Thanks again for your support.

Sure it is trkcapt. How did you find this pattern, you seen a similar picture of the other button? You see what I'm trying to find is a similar button that it's at least of the same size.
