My wife checked the Coin Star machine today and came home with 2 plastic pennies. Being an idiot I did a Google search to find out about them. Amazon says they are used to teach kids about money and financial responsibility. You can buy a bag of 100 for $8.96. That's only almost $.09 each. :icon_scratch: For a fake penny. I don't think I'm smart enough to play with their toys. I guess I'll have to use the real ones until I'm responsible enough to afford the plastic version.

Ain't America great? We can buy Chinese made plastic 1 cent pieces for 9 cents each. Excellent.

Why not use real coins when teaching children how to count or make change?:dontknow:

Here's a couple of pictures. I don't think most kids can count on anything but Daddy's credit card anything. IMG_20190609_091906756.jpgIMG_20190609_091750030.jpg

I wished they always made zincolns out of plastic.....:laughing7:

Yeah, me too. Ever notice how zoos with outdoor aquatic exhibits post signs - often with gruesome necropsy photos of animal stomachs stuffed with zincoins, begging people to not throw coins into the exhibits? Zincoins are a nuisance for us to dig, but they can be lethal to aquatic animals.

So it's a "Profit Deal"!

They're probably afraid the kids will swallow them! The plastic ones are much less toxic!

A plastic penny for your thoughts.

This is a relief! When I saw the thread I was afraid the government was going to issue plastic coins. We already have paper that says “ this is money “.

The sad reality is that it’s probably cheaper to spend .09 cents each for plastic pennies then to have to keep replacing real pennies that get taken. Keep in mind also it isn’t just pennies, it’s all the coins and bills that get used to teach counting money.

Actually, when the mint decided to change the cent from pure copper, they experimented with plastic. The plastic cents were made by an outside vendor as an experiment and were never issued. It would have been a good move for us metal detectors. Gary

7 billion zinc cents in 2018 @ 2.6c each to make and ship, so the US taxpayer lost 82 million dollars making cent coins. Plastic or cardboard would be a much better choice for the inflation ridden penny.

I found a $ 100 bill in the road and was all excited until I saw the pink chinese writing on it.
a google search said it's a training aid for chinese banks.

people are trying to pass the fake bills so watch for them.

the plastic penny should last a thousand times longer than the zincoins they call money these days.

REALLY? Well, at least you can confirm the real ones pass without having to squish the poop! TTC

Thanks a lot for that mental image. Until now, I had not expected such a use for a pinpointer.

I've got some tax tokens from another state i can't remember that were given as change at one time. They are made of green plastic. Oklahoma had them also to give fractions of a cent in change. They were brass and aluminum

Ah yes, the Mint made Plasticolns made as a trade-off between the Autobots and Decepticolns but they failed to meet any standards because they were so sissy that they melted at the sight of Optimus Prime and Bumblebee. :BangHead::laughing7::tongue3:
