hard to say from the pictures, but was something attached to the center at one point?

Although it was hard to see from your photos, but after downloading and tweaking, it looks like you have a brass filigree hardware knob, probably from the turn of the century or slightly earlier. When I first looked at your pics, I thought it might be part of a brooch, but the brass is too thick for jewelry. Welcome to the forum.

PS: Out of curiosity, what state had an earthquake that destroyed a plantation?

The earthquake was in the late 1800's and it was in South Carolina, I was given permission by the land owners to look on there property and come to find out it was where Thomas Bee had his house. I have also found a U.S. roset from the indian and spanish war along with a brass goose that went on the side of a wilson flint lock. Thanks for your help
