Planning a trip to New Mexico. Anyone know places to search gems,gold or silver?

I would like to know if there are any places to go in New Mexico where my boys and I could enjoy searching for gold or gems. We are starig at Hobbs and heading towards ruiodoso or the Caverns. Thanks

Get a copy of Rocks and Minerals of New Mexico...great book with excellent information where to dig.
