Hello everyone,
My name is Danna and I have been digging in my backyard for about 6 years now. It is the greatest place ever to be. My mom bought 5 acres on the river, the house was built in 1950, so who knows how long this stuff has been buried. No one had lived on the property in over 20 years when we bought it. I seen a bottle sticking out of the ground where we had our dog for a while and begun to dig it up. It had just rained and to my suprise it happened to be an amber colored one gallon bottle. Then a few days later I found another one. After that I began to dig a little bit, finding various bottles and tin cans. I stopped digging in my hole after is was about 5 feet deep, and about 6 feet long. I let it sit for a couple of years, and then a few weeks ago I decided to check it out. My brother told me that I should dig deeper so that's what I did. Now my hole is huge. I found all kinds of thing; bottles cans, silverwear, clothes, cermics, ect. The best things that I have found so far is two teapots (complete), a compact, fingernail polish, and lipstick. It is so amazing to think about the things you can find just digging somewhere where people used to burry their trash. I realize now where the saying, "One mans gabage is another mans treasure" came from.

Welcome Danna.

Great Story & Introduction.

Yes it is amazing what treasures are under our feet.

Welcome to TNet and nice trash pit! Have fun and HH, Mike

Welcome Danna. Hope you find a lot of good stuff out there. :D

Danna,

I too have treasures in my yard. Haven't dug 5 foot pits but maybe I need to! I've just MD'd and what is amazing is that I can go back over an area and find something else that wasn't picked up before (although it always seems to be a nail).

Have fun!

Now you gotta talk your mom into gettin a detector, trust me, shiny silver looks WAY cool comin' outta the ground !!

Welcome to T-net !!!!

You're off to a great start. In addition to a detector, you'll need a camera so we can see all the cool stuff you find. We love pictures.

If you've been lurking around here for very long, you know that there is a wealth of knowledge here. Some of these people can identify anything.

That 5 acres will keep you busy for a LONG time.

There are quite a few ladies on here, so don't feel like its just a bunch of old guys ;)

Be careful in your treasure pit

Danna, There are people here who like photos of "Hand Disintered Junque" a phrase coined by a TN member. Send a photo of what ever you find.

Down boys, down. ;)

Keep the mind focused on the stuff in the ground. This is, remember, a METAL DETECTING - TREASURE FORUM.

Also keep in mind that she can dig a 5x6 foot hole. You can put bodies in that size hole.

Dana,

What a fun way to start treasure hunting.
Being a parent Myself, I suspect your Mom never worried about where you were.

Some day I expect to see a marvelous post that says you found Al Capones lost millions or (Jimmy Hoffa) (who ever he is right?)
At the very least you may want to learn some Chinese, the way you dig.

Keep digging, some of the most famous finds came from the trash.

Technically, professor, the gutter is in the ground. I do have to agree about the size of the hole tho', never, EVER mess with a woman that can dig a hole deeper than you are tall.

Any chance of you gettin' a MD ??

TECHNICALLY, a gutter is on top of the ground: gut·ter (gŭt'ər) pronunciation
n. 1. A channel at the edge of a street or road for carrying off SURFACE water. ;D

I thought about using "keep your mind out of the gutter" but thought it might be a little too much.

I've got a MD. Two as a matter of fact. A Garrett Infinium and a White's DFX. ;)
