Can someone tell me approx.when round balls were replaced by cartridges ? Found a nice little round ball at a site and was wondering if it could be used to bracket the age.

Round balls were replaced by minie balls ,conical muzzle loaded bullets. minie balls were replaced with cartridges.
Round ball to minies during civil war.
