Hi Everyone,
My father found this on the coast of Nova Scotia in the 1960’s washed up on a beach near Louisbourg. There have been many ship wrecks around there with many gold coins and other artifacts found by residents. I’m wondering if anyone has any idea who may know something about this sort of thing? Thanks!

Welcome from Mi also Tommy

:hello: Welcome to tnet!

Quite interesting, A few more pictures would help (the thickness, and what does the back side look like?) (Is it metal or wood?)

More pics.

Wood door about 2” thick. Metal details covered in sheep skin According to Smithsonian when sent sample away.

Thanks for the pictures and update. It is quite interesting, especially with the dolphins and waves in the center. It is a puzzler! :icon_scratch:

Looks like a pay chest for the military with the "Eagle" and all on it. The two designs to the left and right look like maybe initials in the Theban language? Maybe a "G" and "L" for General's Chest.

Man I tell ya, THAT is one item that I wish could TALK and tell it's story. Good that your Dad saved it, and that you have kept it. THAT door has a story I'll bet.

I’d take one of the screws out of the latch and have it aged. The screw head looks looks modern but the door is awesome

That dead bolt is kind of hackney’d in there like it wasn’t originally there. And at least the screws aren’t Phillips Head!

That latch looks to have been replaced. It looks newer then the rest. The door looks of a period of time when screws weren't around. But, I could be mistaken. Water can do strange things to objects. On one side the emblem is of sea while the other side is of air. Very interesting piece. I hope you find your answers and share them. It would be interesting to hear the story on it.

I would guess that the latch has been added. Are the fancy scroll glued on top of the sheep skin, or is the skin cut out around the scroll. Cool door. A lot work went into. Thanks for posting, great find. Marion

That's is so freakin cool I wish I had money to buy that wow I love it Good luck hope you get a lot for it. Tommy
