One cool pipe tamper :hello2:

Iron Patch is right that not many pipe tampers found this side of the pond. Understand they can date back quite a bit. Wouldn't be surprised if this tamper got real good age to it. That's an awesome relic :icon_queen:

I was thinking of Horus, but seems to have normal hands & some strange kind of wings/clothing??

I'm stumped.

PS. I checked 2 books with these in & its not in them, so not a common type, as I expected.

Crusader, that is one fantastic find! Is there any chance this may not be a pipe tamper, but instead may be an ancient game piece of some kind, perhaps similar to the king in a game of chess? I know far far less about tampers than you do, but to a novice it seems so unusual for a tamper, and as well, seems to be an obscure enough deity to be older then a tamper might be. Were there perhaps war games that used bronze figures?
Just suggesting..

Game piece is an interesting suggestion, however wouldn't the base of piece have to be bigger in order to function as a board game piece? Unless the pieces were laying not standing. I still think pipe tamper and not sure what older would be? I think Ramitt is on right track with fertility goddess

There is no doubt that its a pipetamper but I can see why you might think that. Erotic tampers were popular in the 18th Century but this type I can not find anywhere.

Forgot to say its made of Brass.

Mile-ender! Sweet ID

Description: A pipe tamper in the form of a girl with underwear at her ankles and upper clothing held between her teeth, exposing her lower body to male genitalia in front of her.

Bawdy tampers of this type were particularly popular during the second half of the 18th century. The present example is stylistically similar to UKDFD 12447, and possibly originated from the same manufacturer.

Pipe tampers have been produced since the late 16th century to provide smokers with a tool for compressing the tobacco in their pipe bowls. This was necessary to ensure a firm draw, as well as slow and uniform burning.
