Only second intact pipe bowl I’ve ever found. Nice surprise on a slow hunt.

Thought I had a silver thimble full of dirt. Ended up being lead. Looks like someone filled a thimble with lead and added an iron attachment. Note sure what this is. Interesting, I guess. Thx!

Good assortment of finds. The sterling pieces are from a bracelet, like this one (is the design the same on the other side?):

That one has a series of Christian names engraved on the design side of the links and also carries the date '1943'. Maker not known.

Nice pipe bowl!

I found that same pattern pipe bowl digging bottles when I was a kid. Still have it.
Is that another sterling silver thimble? No! I just re-read your post.
I finally found my first perfect sterling silver thimble a few weeks ago. All the others I found in the past were smashed flat.

Very Nice!!! Congrats!!!

Congratulations on a good hunt. From what I have found out over the years your pipe bowl is considered a newer style trade pipe. It used a reed or hollow wooden stem. They were made primarily beginning in 1878 and production stopped by 1951. I found one complete with wooden stem in a crawl space under a school built in 1922. They are a neat find. Stay safe, good luck and keep swingin.
