has anyone ever noticed that if you put pressure on the shaft of the pinpointer that it will sound off as if there is a target next to it...
this can be done with putting pressure with your hands...(no rings etc..)in my hands... mine started to get real sensitive to this, sent it back and came back in the mail
12 days later ..... garrett says this will happen with to much pressure and this is normal because there is pressure on the coil...
garrett replied that mine has been repaired an is now working good...

If you mistreat a coil or pinponter Or any product we can't complain when it stops working. ;D

Sandman, propointer was not mistreated during use, I did call Garrett when it was first purchased and they said that sometimes
it will sound off with some pressure and that was normal. This was said by a Garrett technician on the phone to me. And he told me if it gets any worse I should send it in for repairs.(propointer was purchased in March) and it did get worse as time went on and not from abusing it ether.

I had a BH pinponter that did the same thing and I believe that the tips are so thin that with pressure you actually compress the sensitive wires in the tip. After a couple of years use the plastic tip actually wore thru and you could see wires inside. I now use a plastic tip cover that protects it from wearing out.
