Pinpointer necessary?

Most detectors have a pin-pointer function built into them now days. If yours doesn't then I'd say sure, but if it does, learn how to use it properly and you can save yourself some $$$ to spend on other things.

I'm just learning how to use a MineLab X-Terra 705 which has a pin-pointer function and after testing it I have to say it works very well. Granted the instructions on how to use it were clear as mud, but I figured it out with a little time and trial and error.

For anyone using a pinpointer for nugget hunting, what model(s) do you recommend? My ProPointer won't sound off any tenth-gram pieces; is a Falcon the only really useful one for this? The Falcon is great, but so very sensitive, it can be awkard to use with a regular detector in the vicinity.

Never a need in 52 years of detecting. Tried a few freebies sent to my biz in dayz of old but gave'm away as just mo'junk to break, lose, carry around. I saw a recent post that stated-and quite a few agreed-get a small nugget, your pointer and a real penny(copper) glue or tape. Use pointer to sound off and back off till sound goes away, take the penney and slowly slide down the side till the sound starts again and adjust to loudest signal, farthest away-tape/glue/whatever in that sweet spot to much increase sensitivity. Folks swear by it---just not my thang-John
