Has anyone modified a pinpointer to have a LOOOONG neck? Can a pinpointer have a wand, say.... 3 feet or so to get down into cracks too narrow and deep for an MD? Would be an interesting project. Anyone know of such a modification? TTC

Could be your million dollar idea:thumbsup: Maybe something that telescopes like a old car antenna

I have a Falcon MD-20 that has a 5 foot extension (just a white PVC pipe that its stuck into, slotted to allow for the cable). It works great. Its optional with the Falcon MD-20's.

I have yet to find any other pin-pointer that is of much use for gold prospecting. The Falcon MD-20 is not all that spectacular to use (you have to slide the copper ring at the coil end around to tune it), but its great for poking around tailings and jamming into places that might have tiny gold mixed in.

Tnx, guys! Yes. Makes more sense to stick a pointer into a hole than an arm... with snakes and all, could be injurious! I will look into the Falcon MD-20, 99. TTC

TTC,
Seems to me that a pinpointer has a small "coil" at the functional tip and if the wire leads going to it were extended "without" changing the electromagnetic conditions of the "coil" or, as long as the lead wires were not too long, then it should work, IMHO. Also seems to me that folks on here have commented about a "pinpointer" at Harbor Freight, I do not know what it is maybe a stud finder?, but it would be inexpensive enough to pull it apart and 'play with it'. Just thoughts....63bkpkr

I have one of the $17 Harbor Freight pin pointers - it won't find the type gold I find with my detector, no matter how close you are to it. Its fine for coins and relics that are not too small, just not gold.

Tnx guys. Sounds like I have a project in my near future! TTC

Here is a link to a Coiltek pinpointer built for a PI. One could add more pvc to make it longer.

Coiltek Manufacturing - Pinpoint Probe

Build one of the project PI's available and this could be the coil, or if you prefer, you could also build the pinpointer also. I know it can be done because I have built a couple for myself.

I suspect a similar design could be developed for a VLF if there was a real demand and there isn't one already built for VLF's. Personally, I think there is one built by Sunray already isn't there?
