OK, so when I started and bought my gear, I bought the "mandatory" Garrett pin pointer - and can say I was very impressed.
once it started to die, and as I was getting more into the SCUBA, I opted for the VIBRA PROBE.
although I have yet to use the VP underwater I have used it extensively on land and I for one have now gone back to the Garrett.
here are my views;
- the Garrett seems more "solid" to hold and use
- the G is shorter and easier to carry in the belt holder
- the G "side bar pointer" is good for scraping / detecting.
- the VP has to be pointed directly at the target for it to vibrate - I was swishing it around in the hole so much it was like mixing paint!
- the VP seems (IMO) to have a microsecond of a delay once you pass over the object, making it harder to pinpoint the item.
- the quiet mode of the VP is great - if only you could mute the Garrett at will!
- the turn on / off feature of the VP (hold vertical for 2 seconds) means I often left it on mistakenly.
once I try it underwater, I'll report back if there is any major results!
