Got over to harbor island for a family vacation back in mid June!! I have been coming to this island as a professional fisherman for at least the last 15 years. Often times ill stay here for 2-6 months a year. This was the first time I have been here with family, and I had tremendous plans to treasurehunt. Well.....vacationing with 19 family members one must be realistic, and I barley had time to detect with all the fishing, diving, and other family adventures. I did manage to get great recoveries every time I went though !!

Managed to snag a nice 925 chain and charm, a giant silver man ring with diamonds/zirconia, and a beautiful 18k wedding band. Other finds included coins....all 1960s, many beautiful pieces of pottery for my art, and some nice relics like the 1700s buckle, and a lock eschuion. Also got some older hinges, and other older relics.

Had some nice amethyst and silver as well, and a beautiful piece of gold plated 925 chain !! I also got a couple hours in free diving shells, and did well in a short time

Wish I,d known about this treasure hunting thing back in 1973 when I visited Grand Bahama courtesy USMC. I,d have spent more time on the beach and less in the casino! Way to go!:icon_thumleft: I remember a nice book store there. Got my first all in one copy of Lord of the Rings there.

Well here ya go.....this is a sandy beach under some trees right in town....if you get hot you can get a cold beer in minutes. Its easy to access, and when you get up under the trees at the south end of the beach, you'll start to see broken bottle parts from the 1700s right on top of the sand. Start hunting.....this is a great spot for coins, buckles, buttons, hinges, etc.etc. everybody ask me for great spots this is one !! You'll never leave empty handed. In the winter stong N.E.sters will bring great bottles from the muddy bottom off shore. This is where some cobbs can be found, and dates back to 1690s.

Right across the street from the landings, and the rock house steps !!

Dang! You found the escutcheon plate for the key hole to the pirates chest. ☠️

Boy I sure do get encouraged over things like that....only had one day to hunt.

Bart..
A beautiful Harbor Island memory
Well Done
Thank you bill....its a wonderful place with great history !!

I only visited Harbour Island once Bart, in the late 80’s when we were living on Plantation Key. At the time we stayed at the Runaway Hill Resort, a large home that had been turned into a resort by a couple. Long set of stairs leading down to the pink sand beach. Great finds Bart!

Its a magical place steve.....if I had some bahamian treasure permits I could salvage at least 2 wrecks I found here, and several others that the locals know !! The history is thick, and the very famous pirate "CALICO JACK RAKHAM" plundered and burnt this town in the early -mid 1700s.....I can't recall the exact date. The town goes back deep into pirate history, and was the preferred place for pirates to bring there stolen goods to be smuggled to the Carolinas and the north east. The whole town made its living on smuggling pirate goods, piracy, wrecking, and privateering, later on in the 19th century it was a hub of bahamian boat building, and farming. Many people got rich from pineapple growing and shipping, and there was a bustling industry in the 1890s, and early 1900s.....all pineapple transactions were done in gold coin in those days 👍👍

Super fun looking hunt, congrats!
Love what you did with the artwork, very cool!
Thank you @oldmxrat I really enjoy the art part of this hobby....I can hardly stop mud larking for these pottery shards so I can make more art !!
