The shape is just like a variety of turpentine pot from the late 1800's (to catch pine sap out of pine trees). I also saw Indians down in Panama using almost identical pieces as yours to catch sap from some sort of shrub and they used the sap to make some sort of salve or alcoholic beverage or suntan oil or something...
