Pin pointers

I don't have a Vibra Probe 580 and don't know anyone that does. All I know is that my detecting buddies and I can't live without our Pro-Pointers (I have had one so long the label has patent pending on it). In my opinion, Garrett hit the nail on the head with an easy to use, effective device that you can't live without.

I actually have two Pro-Pointers so that in event of a failure I won't be without it (I also loan it to others I hunt with if they don't have a pointer).

Good luck in your decision.

you can buy an ace 1 fiddy for less than the pointer
I think it's a rip off
garret is taking advantage of it's customers....
along with mine lab
it's bad enough you have to pay a 100.00 for a white's pin pointer
what is the deal
which company started this pointing thing anway

I use a screw driver.

I have both the 580 and a ProPointer.
On land the ProPointer is #1, but when I spot a deal on a ProFind I'll buy it and retire the Garrett as a spare.
In the water, the 580 is too handy. Being a PI it sends my 1280, but it's worth it. On land it works, but is tip sensitive only, is long & clumsy, and doesn't get the depth that the ProPointer does.

No one is a talented as you sandiest of man

I use a small whites pointer nothing special but the best part of my stuff is the SunRay inline probe there's nothing like it it makes every so smooth !!:icon_thumright:

Newbie here.
Can someone compare the Garrett pro pointer with the Vibra Probe 580?
I need a pointer and do not have local access to a dealer.
Thanks,
NJ Phil

I have a low end low cost PP and I have a Garrett.... I'd be lost without my Garrett PP...

Ihave both now (Profind and Vibraprobe 580) very different but both have their perks.

I just sold my Sun Ray: with a 180 meter on a Sovereign GT it was a big clumsy mess of wire no matter how I arranged it. It would be nice if Sun Ray would invent a wireless version that still used your detectors discrimination...

My SunRay works perfect....its like having a 2" coil in your hand it makes everything so easy and fast...I'd be lost without it....:dontknow:

Honestly, the Garrett Pro pointer seems like it is a highly over-rated pinpointer and everyone has jumped on the bandwagon because they honestly haven't tried others. My girlfriend just bought me a Garrett Pro Pointer for Valentines. It didn't work and there was a hairline crack along the shaft. Could have been damaged during shipping but that would show how durable it really is. Had to return it for a $12 shipping fee to the dealer. Received a second one in working order and while I can honestly say I haven't used it in the field, it does seem like a good pinpointer. Previously, I was using the Vibraprobe 580 for a few years and can say hands down it is much better than the Garrett for these reasons.

1) The Vibraprobe is waterproof to 100ft and it floats. Used it in the water and loved it!! HUGE ADVANTAGE over the Pro pointer...The Pro Pointer is only weather resistant....I taped over the speaker with duct tape which should help.
2) It is only sensitive at the tip which for me is an advantage which would make it seem easier to recover a target. Others may feel differently..You can autotune the Garrett to make it sensitive at the tip.
3) It is quiet, unlike the Garrett which will attract kids and curiosity seekers, especially in a park....
4) The shaft is longer enabling you to get deeper in the hole.
5) It is definitely more durable than the Garrett. Had the Vibraprobe for years...No hitches...So far, the Garrett has been a disappointment before I had a chance to use it. Damaged when it arrived!!
6). The auto shut off is a great feature on the Vibraprobe, especially if you forget to turn it off. No switches to worry about. Just tilt the probe upward for a few seconds and it turns off.

However, I do see a couple of advantages the Garrett has over the Vibraprobe.

1) The batteries are much easier to install on the Garrett....You just drop it in. On the Vibraprobe, the battery attachments have to be pulled out which can be a hassle.
2) Really like the light feature on the Garrett...Nice..
3) The Garrett may have a little more depth than the Vibraprobe, but for me, that is no big deal.
4) The Vibraprobe will cause your detector to chatter but if you keep it away from the coil, it will be fine. Not sure on the Garrett...

So this is an unbiased view of both pin pointers. Perhaps I will prefer the Garrett when I get out with it this spring. For me, the verdict will be out when I actually use it Still like it though. Receiving it damaged when it arrived didn't make a good first impression of it. The Vibraprobe is about $30.00 more than the Garrett. For me, right now, the Vibraprobe seems like the better of the two. Others may not agree, but to each his own. At least I have them both to make comparisons. HHing!!

I just got the Minelab pro25...works pretty good, Garrett works good too! My only problem with the garrett is that it goes alittle haywire in high mineral areas, the mine lab I can bring down the sensativity to compensate for that. Both great tools for the arsonal!
