I found what is left of a pin of some type that has what looks to be a "Jester" hand with a wrench in it. Anybody have any ideas???

Me too..........and with no luck.

Im beginning to 2nd guess if that is a wrench the hand is holding. Might be a rattle or something that the Jesters carried around shaking. ???

Ok two heads better than one,,,,, I am thinking vintage enameled pin ....perhaps Mardi Gras or a fraternal order of something? is there anything on the back...would help to see the closure on the back....enamled pins were very popular in the thirties...it doesnt look cheap...and it also looks like the little squares are inlaid....can you tell?

It is enameled and the squares are in-laid.........but the pin/clasp is missing on the back. House I found it at was built around 1900 and the pin was about 4" deep.

I've looked at about every jester pin on the net and cant find anything similar.

Maybe a magic (wand< spellcheck), with a moon on the end of it..
Nice looking piece.
Good luck on the ID, & Happy hunting~

Sent your post to a friend who's an expert on military insignia. He says that this is the old DI (distinctive insignia) of the U.S. Army's 191st Ordnance Battalion, and that if it still had the original pin on the back, it would be worth $25-30. They have a different DI now (since 1966). For more info on the unit:
