Just had these two finds. Both I think are lead pilgrims badges. In medieval times people would go on pilgrimages to holy shrines. On leaving they would be directed to the souvenier shop by the monks (just like a medieval Disney land). There they would buy badges of the particular saint of that shrine. This was a very lucrative trade for the church. I don't know which shrines these two came from. One shows the headless figure of a robed man, the other seems to show a buckle, or letter inside a sheild ?. Both of these came from a field, that as just been seeded with beans.

Robert.

Great finds! Pilgrims souvenirs are rare, never seen badges. The occasional pilgrims ampoula and very rare figurines turn up here. Like the badges!

Nice finds. I learned something new today. Thanks!

Impressive finds, can you tell what type of medal they're made of? Thanks for sharing!:icon_thumleft:

Yeap rare to find, & nearly always smashed up.:occasion14:

Pretty sure the figure is Thomas Beckett from Canterbury, very popular place to go.
