Hello, a friend of mine is selling this and I'd like to buy it from him, but I'd like to find out for sure what it might be, and possibly how old it is. He thinks it is a pike dating anywhere from revolutionary war to civil war. The blade measures 12" with an overall length of 18".

Any help would really be appreciated,

Thank you

Could be the top of a staff of any number of fraternal groups. I'm not convinced it looks sturdy enough to be used as a weapon. I could definately be wrong and it is cool looking, but theres my 2-cent thoughts.

The pike theory sounds good to me. Nhbenz's idea has some merit, too, though.

I lean towards it being a pike. If the blade's a foot long, I have little doubts of its efficacy as a weapon.
