Anyone familiar? :dontknow:

It could be an embossed strap from an old steamer trunk. Are you sure it is brass? Does it attract a magnet? Interesting find, Breezie

It's nonmagnetic and it came out of the ground as you see it here. I'm assuming brass. Pretty strong metal though. Doesn't bend easily. :dontknow:

Since it has aquatic stampings, I'm wondering if it could some type of animal/fish commercial tag or a decorative brass strip on a fish creel, fish bowl or the likes? Breezie

Well, that sounds pretty close. There's a fish at the top as well. I was sort of thinking maybe a broken off utensil? That pattern on the back is pretty involved. Seems like a lot of work went into making this.

Thanks!

I'm wondering about the notches on the one end, Kinda reminds me of a pipe clamp that hooks into a piece of uni strut, just wondering what they would be for?

That is a picture rail hook. Ive seen several victorian brass objects with that aquatic life pattern .
Here is a match holder with that pattern. cattails, birds, fish, turtles .

Taz just nailed it! Great ID! I knew I had seen it before, but couldn't put my finger on it. That same shape and pattern was also used on knife props and name/place card holders as well as the picture rail hook. Way to go, Breezie

Yep, I'd have to agree. Even the very same turtle! Thanks Taz! It fits everything, the area, the time frame, everything!

Thank you!

Merry Christmas!
