Hi Tony,
Both on site visits combined time from when I started the dowsing process to the recoveries was under 1 hour.

This might be a dumb question teleprospector. As you know I'm new at dowsing. Can you explain to me your mind set. What is it you are thing or asking when you are dowsing. How do you prepare. Is there a prayer involved.

I try and relax before I do a map dowse, I stand at my dowsing table and study the map or photo for awhile and while I'm doing this, I slowly start to eliminate the distractions around me and begin to concentrate on my task of what I want to look for,it's at this time also I start to picture in my mind what it is I'm seeking and also am formulating my questions that I will silently pose to the rod/pendulum.
You don't have to formulate questions to find objects, you may choose to just hold a mental image in your minds eye of what it is you are looking for. I choose to ask questions along with the minds eye image beacause this feels the most natural to me. I did'nt start out this way,but over time I felt distanced from the procedure and felt the need to become more involved in what was going on. I now pose questions to the instruments as if they are my friends and that I've known them my whole life.
I'll share 2 questions that I ask while photo dowsing. Let's say I am looking for a cache of silver coins.
1) Are there any human made deposits of silver coins in the area represented by this photo right now?
If yes, then,
2) Where in this photo below the earths surface is a human made deposit of silver coins?
There is no need to say a prayer, but this depends on your belief system. Since I believe that dowsing is spritual to me, I will ask for assistance in my quest. This way of thinking takes the burden off my shoulders as to where something is and having faith that my dowse will be successful.
So whatever each dowser believes, the most important thing is not to try and control the instruments by thinking YOU know where something is. It's hard at first to let go and trust the instruments but this is mandatory to your success. Practicing will help overcome this, but sometimes we still err and must learn from our mistakes. I learn more from doing things wrong.
When I started out dowsing years ago, I would ask "Are conditions suitable for dowsing now?" If I got a yes, then I would proceed. Now when I stand at the dowsing table w/ the rod I don't ask this, if it gives me a yes, then I'm good to go. Practicing is part of preparation, this helps build up your sensitivities to the objects you are looking for. I try to practice daily even if it's for 10 minutes. It's like anything else you want to learn to do, like playing a musical instrument,at first when you start out, it's difficult getting the mechanics down,(learning curve) but then by your efforts, over time it should become second nature to you and the practice excercises are a maintenance program that you will continue to grow with. Some people pick up dowsing and find that one item and that's it for them. Some people continue learning and practicing beacause they want to push themselves and strive to learn more and make it their way of life. If I miss a couple of days of practice, I really feel it on monday when I pick up the instruments. This is why no 2 dowsers are exactly alike and why dowsing is personal to each individual. We often get the same results on a map dowse, but our methods of getting there are different.
Hope to hear from you soon and Happy Holidays to all!
Jon
