Marc, I have a question. Along with the cropping of pics as per this
http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,27879.0.html

Is there anything else we can voluntarily do to save bandwidth? I know that shaving a little on pics (say 600X420 or less) instead of 640X480. Just because there is a limit size of 128KB doesn't mean we have to use that. Is gifs using a lot more bandwidth than jpegs? We also plan on using Paypal this weekend even if it's not a lot-our way of saying thanks.

Some programs, such as Photoshop, enable you to chose the amount of jpg compression. For web use, most photos can be compressed near the maximum amount (lowest quality) with little or no perceivable effect except to decrease file size to about 10-20% of the file size of the same image saved at the highest quality level. This saving is in addition to cropping the image and reducing the number of pixels.

Well, just crop them so unnecessary stuff is removed, that will be a big help... image size is actually NOT our biggest problem right now... Thanks for the thoughts though :).

Our biggest problem is a large number of users, doing a lot of things, overloading the cpu. If I had three wishes they would be....

a cpu for the forum
a cpu for chat
a cpu for shopping

I'm hoping to make progress on new server hardware in the coming weeks... ya'll say a prayer! :)

Thanks again!

Marc
