Ok, I got to take my new E-trac out this afternoon for about an hour to an old turn of the century to mid 20s picnic ground. My buddy Arkie and I have made some good finds there over the years. Several years ago when we found out about this place all I had was my old Whites 6000/di pro and he had a basic Garretts. We found a bunch of Mercs, Wheaties, and Buffalos. They were all 4-7 inches deep. After a couple of years we both upgraded to DFXs. We hunted the area hard again. Started finding teens and twenties mercs and wheaties with an occasional buffalo or v nickel. All about the same depths as before. Well through time we started getting less and less targets and eventually started hunting other places. Money crunches hit us both and we both ended up selling our DFXs. I haven't MDed for about two years and got turned on to the E-trac, which I ended up purchasing about 3-4 weeks ago. Had it out several times just learning and tweaking at other sites with great success. So anyhow, back to the picnic grounds. I always had a hunch that there was stuff there deeper and older than what we had been finding. Fired up right in an area I and Arkie have hunted hard. Took two steps...beeep. Good signal 8-10 inches. Dig it up and its two wheaties together both 1911. Fill the hole, stand up, sweep, and....tweeet. Good signal 8-10 inches. Dig it and its a 1912-D barber dime!!!!! Yes! I check my hole before I stand up and tweeet. About a foot from the hole I just dug. Dig down a good 8-10 inches again and its another barber, this time a 1905!! Filled that hole, stood up, swept another pass or two, and beeep. In the nickel range. Dig down again 8 inches or better and its a 1905 v nickel! By this time it was getting dark and hard to see, so as much as I didn't want to, I turned the E-trac off and headed to the truck. All of these finds came from and area no bigger that 8ft by 8ft. The picnic ground area is prolly and acre or better, so my gosh, its gonna be like virgin ground again with the new E-trac. BTW, my pops was using my 6000/di pro there this evening to and after I got my first signal he came over to where I was and tried to see if it would hit on the targets before I dug...nope, barely would even in all metal mode. Can't wait to get out there for a full day!!!
