They will tell you that you found a decorative civilian button from the mid to late 1800s.

ok what does the back of the button say? --button backs often tell more research wize than the fronts do.
 

I dont see anything on back of button.
 

Really nice finds FatCat, particularly the button. I think Buckleboy is probably right on with the date, mid 1800's. It seems to be what's called champleve. This differs from cloisonne, as the depressions for the laquer are etched out of a solid mass, rather than wire being braised on to form the design outline. I haven't been able to find your exact button, but if you google "champleve" you may find something.
