Wow -- lucky guy! That's quite an impressive collection!

The Toolsboro area is known for mound building culture. I’m not certain how long ago these artifacts were found. It wasn’t recent.

Wow, impressive. Glad they're on display where people can see them and not stuffed in a box in a museum basement somewhere.
The university of IL was gifted a huge Indian artifact collection in that was supposed to be put on display. That was 40 yrs ago and it’s in some basement storeroom. We tried to get access to it to examine it and were turned away. Don’t give anything to museums! Locked away out of sight, or sold out the back door by a janitor, your good intentions might be for nothing!

This museum is well trusted in the community and governed by the local historical society. We’re very proud of it.
I do understand the risks associated with donating items. Things can change.

I understand that museums may have limited space for displays, but they should allow researchers access to collections that are stored away.

You can make an appointment or stop when it’s open. They let us view all documents, research info, etc. They even have working displays: where students can grind corn with a metate, etc.
Nothing is secret, off limits at this one.

What a beautiful display of points and YES it's a shame to hide away artifacts from the people ! I don't have any artifacts but I do my best to knap the best I can and then give them to friends for their enjoyment also !
