I’ll go look……

Gene - you get a gold star for observation.

I feel silly having missed it. “JAMES DIXON & SONS”
Hey, no problem. Is it an oldie?

Found this in central Va. I’m assuming it’s the handle off a fork/spoon. Site (at least close by) has potential to mid 1700s. Found several flat buttons on same vicinity. Marked “JAMES”. Ideas?

Not really. Google Says 1830s at oldest. I however am the furthest from an expert on cutlery, so I’ll see if anyone who is an expert disagrees with Dr Google.
It would have to be 1835 at the oldest, that's the year his second son joined the company and the name changed from ".... and Son" to ".... and Sons", they are still in business today, this info is directly from their website, here's a link to a PDF of the company's history.

I'm guessing your piece is made of "Britannia metal" which they specialized in, it's a type of pewter but differs from regular pewter in that it contains no lead.
