Pewter relic

I found this in an old iron ore village. Anyone know what it is?

Might be the remains of an old ice box handle or an early refrigerator handle.

I wouldn't think it to be pewter, but as far a s what it is....I would guess some sort of embossing stamp tool for a desk set with the stamp part missing.
