Pewter lined "C" button? Any thoughts?

I picked up this old button a few years back for a few bucks. It was in a jar with a bunch of random antique buttons that a little old lady had for sale in her antique store. It certainly looks old, but I've never come across one that looks like this. Could it be a post war veteran's uniform button?

I know they had brass ones, but this one is pewter. I can't find much info on any pewter cavalry buttons used in the confederate army.

Good info! According to this I suppose it could possibly be a late war button. I hope it isn't a fake, but for what I paid I don't think it was a bad idea and would have bought more had they been available. Thanks for finding that for me.

Are you sure it is pewter?? There was a manufacture named "Smith Kemp Wright" that used no back-marks to disguise the companies origin.. Those examples can be found on the link above, and some of their buttons had a different style C, that was slightly off... some of their buttons they produced, with no back-marks, have been thrown out as "non civil war". If the button you have does not have a back-mark like " Superior Quality" and is pewter!! i really just have a hard time thinking this is a legit button.

Sorry, but that button is absolutely a modern-made reproduction. There never was an Original civil war era Lined-C button made of pewter or any other "white metal."

And, the Winchester Sutler's advertizement is misleading. There never were any pewter versions of the specific Confederate buttons shown in that advertizement.
