Pewter dragons

Here is another item I have dug that needs identification. It's made of pewter and the size of a quarter. It appears to be three dragons in a Viking ship. The head of the third dragon is damaged.
The border around the piece as well as the artistic depiction is raised.
The back of the piece is plain. No attachment hooks, etc.
It was found at the site of an old central Mississippi school that dates back to 1850.
Any help or opinion is appreciated.
 

Interesting. Do you think it could be some kind of lead seal? or Jewelry item?

That is just strange! Masts? Dragons? Birds in a nest? Trees in a storm? I wouldn't even know how to Google such a thing to find examples. Just hang on to it, I guess!

Maybe seeing the back might help? Not that I doubt what you've mentioned, but if there's even a slim chance that someone sees something it may be worth the effort, since we seem to be at a standstill.
Only thing that comes to mind is maybe a fob with the loop broken off.
