Pewter button!!!

Hello,

I found this button near the pre-revolutionary war USA button and I can make out a couple of letters on the back N D ?
Help, please! Buttons are so hard to find information on online given there are so many styles. But, this one with shank intact is more silvery compared to the USA button found a couple of weeks ago.

It's actually brass, maybe a brass over copper 2 piece. It dates well into the 1800s.

Amy, I think I missed your 'USA" button? That's a great find, do you have it posted? (during, not before rev war by the way) This one appears to be a civilian basket weave design two piece button from a little later date. Maybe with a q tip and little peroxide (Don of N.J. brings things to life with this) you'll be able to bring up a few more letters so it can be dated accurately. Would love to see the U.S.A. button!

I think dropping that one in will be fine. Will take more than a dab to cut through the crud, but I think the hp can, and will turn out nice.

Iron Patch - it is a two piece now that I look at it and am glad you told me it was brass and not pewter and maybe now I don't have to be so incredibly gently with it fearing it will crumble.

johnnyi - I posted the USA button a few weeks ago with the colonial cuff-links I found. Although, the USA button is broken, I learned a lot about my find and quickly learned it overshadowed the cuff-links! Here is a picture...

Still a good one. Some people will detect a lifetime and never find a Rev War button.
