Pewter Button with engraved anchor

This is a vest size pewter button. Found at a site that dates from the 1740s to 1830s. There was Rev War activity in the area and both sides passed through and camped there.

Is it military? Or did someone engrave a plain pewter flat button?

It's surely 18th C, but never seen that anchor type before, maybe IP knows? (I think your homemade idea sounds good)

Thanks for the reply. Yes Im thinking it was handmade or custom made so pretty much one of a kind except for maybe the rest of the set from the garment it came off of.
