I did a charity raising rally at Pewsey in Wiltshire today. 250 detectorists on 100 plus acres of ploughed & planted fields. They buried 120 tokens of which 110 were found. The tokens were swapped for raffle tickets. I found 2 which is pretty good really. I had to leave early so I gave the tickets to a couple of random people. I hope they win a prize.

Not much was found really, only a couple of hammered & no roman coins/artefacts.

I was happy with my cica 17th century sword belt buckle.

The button is an interesting piece of social history:
Its says "Bear Club Charity - Devizes". From my research is was probably an 19th century school uniform button:
Devizes - Bear Club School, Devizes:
In 1756 the Bear Club, a social club founded at the Bear Inn, provided a fund for the teaching and clothing of six boys. By 1775 the provision had been increased to 16 boys. In 1848 the Bear Club Trustees formed their own school and took over the old Free School in Maryport Street. They ran it as an independent boys' school and took in boys from all Wiltshire. The school maintained a good standard but by 1858, when there was one master and 30 boys, it was said that the results were poor for the amount of expenditure. The reputation of the school declined and it closed in 1875.

I love that "snake" chain link, or whatever it is. You have some very unusual finds over there, reminds me of when I lived in Turkey ( Lots of old history ).

Thanks for showing us!..........HH
