K, this one is unique, was found at a indian camp, and was brought in from somewhere by them. Found in New Mexico. The material has a almosthas a luster to it, and the black part seems to be almost fiberous. As with the white material everything seems to be running parallel. The end got to be polished from NA's using it as some sort of tool. Here are some pics, if you need anything else to help to get this identified please let me know.
Thanks !!!!!!!

Not petrified. It looks like a very nice celt or axe head made of gneiss or biotite schist. It has been broken at the base. You should try to find the missing piece. The white components are phenocrysts of feldspar or quartz. A good find for nm. c

Hey Chong, that looks like a pet. wood piece turned into a celt or grinding stone...couldn't tell from the pics, but check the broken end and look for fibrous like a tree...

Chadrack, i dont think biotite schist, gneiss seems the closest, now this is from my looking at pictures online, and i have no material in my hand to actually compare to. It is surly a axe or celt. I tried to get a better close up so you can see how its fiberous but the material just wont take good pics. I have never seen this material before, ill try to take it to a geologist, and ill post up what thier opinion is. Thanks chadrack and everyone else

CHONG1 !!

Looks to me like you might have found a Mano or a Pestle,, What the Indians would use to grind down corn or Mesquite beans,, a Mano is usually round and almost flat and would fit in one hand and would be used on a flat stone called a Metate,, and a Pestle would be used in a hole on any type or shape rock!! Find the other half!! Good Find,, and Good Luck! TD
