This petrified piece was found in a creek in Iowa several years ago! Sorry no ruler in the pic but it measures roughly 12" long 4"tall and 1.5"thick. A couple of days after I found it the peice started to
dry out and was sticky. I Put a sealer on it because I was afraid of it rotting. Back is identical to front.

Someone told me Its a shark jaw minus the teeth. Also it was found in the Mid-continent rift system
area that covered some of Iowa.

Someone out there know anything about this?

Yes Digger i think It's definitely part of a animal. The sticky feeling made me think bone!
The pic is old but the color is black for the most part with hints of blue and grey. Before it was sealed the color was light grey mainly because it was drying out.

If it was petrified it wouldn't be sticky. Petrified literally means "become stone" where all the organic matter is gradually replaced with minerals. Sharks have no bones, and if the conditions aren't right to petrify or fossilize the cartilage it won't hang around in a partial state very long.

So, if yours is partilly petrified, maybe, and it's been 30 million years since Iowa was where sharks roamed, I'd say it's something else and much more recent. 20,000 years ago we had some pretty unique megafauna that lived in North America. I'd be more inclined to think it was from a large land animal.
