First post here...awesome site the wife found!! Anyway, I found this in a creek while head hunting. I am not sure if this is a petrified rib bone or shoulder bone, or just a rock and if you look, the top of the rounded portion seems like it was chipped as to sharpen it to use as a hoe?? Am I reaching here. The piece is very hard and seems almost brittle by the sound of it.
Thanks in advance for replies!
Be safe!
Shaf

That's not fair or nice Shaun7! Shame on you. Nailbiting is a nasty habit, but like smoking it is very difficult to stop. Let's see a pic of yours......NGE

cool down shaf, I was defending the nail biters of the world, I have tried to stop numerous times, just when they would get sorta long, something exciting would come up and then they would mysteriously go into hiding again. I have never focused on the hands that show up in these kind of posts, only the object held in them. I am just mesmerized by the cleanliness of many hands holding dirty objects......NGE

Welcome to T'net Shaf - that is a cool piece you found there. Have you tried the "magnet" test to see if it might be iron? It doesn't look it but you never know. I'm thinking that it could have been a scraper of some sort.

Looking forward to more of your posts...

I think that what you have is most of a vertebrae from a large animal. The two protruding bones on the sides are worn away. Probably a cow or horse.

Hey shaf, welcome to an awesome community

Cool find. The Key to Atlantis :icon_scratch:
Don't throw it away. If it is part of an animal vertebra, which it seems it is, it still appears to be a tool, scraper maybe, like DD-777 has said.
Could it be a 'worked' fossil? How heavy is it?

It does not seem unusually heavy but it sounds very brittle. I thought too it may be a worked edge for a scraper or something by looking at the edges???? ??? ???
