Wondering if anyone here can help verify that this pin I found today is from the PA Civil War era Perseverance Band. Found in So. Maine metal detecting a neighbors lawn where have found late 1800's large cent and c.1820 Maine Militia button. Perseverance Band has a site which I copied this from:
Not sure of material. Is Nickle size. Still has pin attached to back.
Anyone ever seen one before?
I have emailed the band / website as well.
It would be really cool if it is from this historic band.
Thank you!
Officially organized on March 2, 1857 as the Perseverance Saxe Horn Band, the band played its first performance on May 12 of that year. On October 3, 1861, the entire band enlisted as a group in the service of the Union Army. They were assigned to the post of the 93rd Regimental Band of the Pennsylvania Volunteers. From the Band’s inception as the “93rd Regiment Band” as part of the 93rd Regiment of Lebanon during the American Civil War... The Perse, as the band is often called, was attached to the regiment at Camp Coleman on October 3, 1861 with John Stanley as it’s leader. After the Civil War, the Perse played at many of the reunions of the 93rd regiment held at The Gettysburg Battlefield... “It has the prestige of the only continuous military band of the Civil War and it’s reputation for military music remains undimmed and it’s excellence as a musical organization is unsurpassed”
