Over the weekend I started my great spring dig. I did well my first day, which was last Thursday. The rest of the weekend went rather slow. I found a great example of a natural stone, with small visible signs of alteration by man. I am not sure if it would be proper to call this a bell or hoof pestle. It is flat on on face, and has visible grinding wear. These are my favorite pieces. The finds that are so often called a geofact or rock. One that has never had to improvise would never ever understand what I see on this piece. I'm sure most of you will see what I see.

If anyone knows what this tool is called, let me know please. I also found a scraper that reminds me of one Larson sent me made of petrified wood. I took many pics. in an attempt to do this piece justice. I think I came close.

I also found these two pieces together about 6 inches beneath the ground. What are they?

I have found these things before, and never did a lot of follow up on them. Any info. Is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I also found this piece. I think it could be the poll end of a grooved axe. I do have my uncertainties, however. What do you guys think??

Lol! True the last ones aren't pretty. That's the name of my game, however. If I can recognize crude tools, the nice ones will jump out at me. Or I'll screw up and only be able to recognize crude stuff. Lol. The reason the last piece stuck out as a broken axe is because of its shape. Check the poll out on this axe.

Now mine.

Can you see any resemblance, or is it just me?

It may be what you say but I have never seen or found a ax in person. Ive never even held one before. I cant help you on that one, sorry

I have found 3 grooved ones. They had do many different variations. The nice one I posted isn't mine. It's on display in a museum. It's from my area, and the only one I've ever seen with a poll that is kinda hexagonal. Cool axe.
