I found this delicate brass item in west central Mississippi in an area where both civil war and late 19th century artifacts have been found.
I just got it cleaned up:
00
U.M.C.
Primers No. 2

Is this the top to a tin of percussion caps, and if so, is this civil war period? I know alot of you guys are experts on ammunition and the like. Thanks for any help on this i.d.

U.M.C patented their logo in 1848 so I know they were around during the civil war.
I'm just curious if this particular tin was from the civil war period. Is this typical of other tins other relic hunters have found since mine denotes 00 No. 2 primers? Just curious

Yes primer tin,

Perhaps since this tin is embossed instead of having a printed label it may have been before the civil war? Nice recovery!
