I have most of the categories blocked here that I rarely ever visit so I decided to free up some to see if they're still being posted. I was shocked :o to discover members here still do some metal detecting! Either that or....well, we'll skip that.

I mean come on people...ain't you got nothing better to do than dig in the dirt?

How you doing MB? I still dirt fish some, most time I'm hunting the beaches in my wetsuits since it is winter, atlantic is cold, since I lost 50 pounds I no longer look like a beached whale when in the suits,,,, :laughing9:...

I've done three short hunts in the last month or so. Found a silver chain/cross (tiny) on one of the outings. I don't post my finds anymore, though, unless it's something special.

I also have found nothing to post about. no one wants to hear another "I found 100 pull tabs and a few buried bud lite cans' thread. :laughing9:
that seems to be all I dig up (with the exception of my first diamond ring last year found on the beach on vacation)

April I go to the beach for 7 days. I have kinda put away my detector til then. I hate the cold and detecting in the cold just is not my cup of tea.

come on april...get here fast lol

I'm doing fine, thanks.
I also need to take off some lard. I hate having to wear my pants 5 inches under my belly button even if it is in style.

Although I'm probably the best with a MD on this site, I've given it up so others can enjoy the hobby.. I found everything, including Atlantis

Funniest thing I posted about 2 years ago were great finds, too bad it they were worthless :laughing9:

Found a Chinese "Rolex" and a nice sized tin filled with jewelry on a beach. Too bad it was all costume jewelry, but the story was PRICELESS !! :headbang:

Maybe I'll go out this year and find some other crap for people to laugh at :laughing7:

Oh master Spartacus, please sir, find us worthy to tell us your secrets of success.. :notworthy:

:tongue3:

I'm tempted to quit my job........dying to get back where I've been getting very lucky. Buckleboy needs to get his vacationing butt back down here! ;D Shane

Its winter, the ground is frozen, my car has problems again, damn it( i hate working on cars in the winter). No metal detecting for me until spring.

A long time ago when I was very young I found a real Rolex and threw it away because it didn't work (also parts were missing). At that time I had never heard of the Rolex brand (I know, hard to believe). It was a pocket watch about 9 inches deep by a WWI monument. Next to it was a large FOB and that's why my early VLF detector could reach it in all-metal mode. I used to tell this true story but one day a guy gave me a hard time over the story so I don't share it much anymore.

But after 40+ years of digging up some of the otherwise nicest lawns in Michigan, I really never found anything of super value. I'd say the total dollar worth of all my finds was under $600. This was after investing thousands of hours of hunting and thousands of dollars in detectors, etc. After hunting tons of beaches both on land and in the water I found only one good quality gold ring. I dug enough junk rings to fill a bucket. Maybe 10,000 Mems LOL

Badger, MD'ing for me is just a fun day out, a true hobby where you can get a little exercise and talk with people. Honestly, I have more fun finding crap than I do if I hit the mother lode. I'm also great at research :icon_thumleft: People are always talking about the best research.. well that's easy. Just go outside and look for ground with no cement, or asphalt and start looking there

Sometimes it's nice to MD without even turning the machine on.. I do this at beaches often enough to have some fun. With the detector off, just walk around swinging it and go Beep, beep when you get about 5-6 feet away from someone beep rapidly, and louder, place the detector down and just start digging. It's fun to face their faces :laughing7: Who knows you may even find something :tongue3:

No wonder no one will hunt with me :laughing9:

I went to city park near my house today must have been at least 60 outside, then 2 guys from the city show up. I'm thinking uh ho, they were there to clean out the arroyo that runs a long side the park. I showed them quarter I had found, they thought it was cool and one of them said he would be getting a detector soon. I wore a blister on my hand from trying to cut through all the roots. seems like most signals were coming from under the trees.I was digging a plug when I realized my bill fold was missing. I searched every where and couldn't find it.The only other people around were 2 guys sitting on a fence drinking beer, and the 2 city guys. I was thinking the guys must have spotted it and took off with it. I'm thinking dammit my driver license, SS card, Va Id, and credit cards, dam :-\ I drove home and found it on the floor under my bed :hello2: So all in all a pretty good day, tomorrow I'm bring a hatchet. :violent1:

Years ago I got a signal and after much hard digging recovered the biggest nail I had ever seen. It was about a 3/4 inches thick and almost 2 foot long! Someone on one of the forums told me it was used in early barn construction.

Another fellow on this forum got one of those super deep tree root signals and eventually came up with a car fender! ;D

My wife says...oh no there's two of you in this world!
I agree, it is great fun and I still occasionally bring out the old Explorer or whatever.

As a rule Michigan isn't hot detecting but if history is ones thing then Michigan has some interesting finds. The trouble is that most of it is on state protected lands and is off limits to THing. They fine people in this state for removing stones, sod, small trees, almost anything, from state land. If they caught anyone detecting any state lands near my home they'd handcuff that one and take him (or her) to jail. This is true even in the lower peninsula.
