Well. It happened again. I dug ANOTHER plate and I can't beleive it. When it popped out the hole I'm thinking 1851 Sword belt plate but it wasn't to be. So I need some help on this one. It has sodder marks on the front. I'm thinking it should be CW related as I found it not 30 ft from the US plate I dug last week. This is the second plate in 2 weeks and now my 4th for the year. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for 5. OH Managed a Indian Head penny, few wheats and a bunch of zinc and memorials(I dont do that often). I think the little brass thing is a finial.

Thanks for looking and the Help in advance.

I can't see the plate very well but it looks like part of it is missing. There was probably an applied wreath and something in the center like an eagle.

Re: Penny Trifecta! And Unknown CW Plate Help!

fyrffytr1- I think your on to something. I think there was a applied wreath from the markings after looking at some images on line. But I may never know what are supposed to be in the center.

WOW! You are killing the plates! It could have had almost any emblem soldered on the face, even a stamped brass confederate state emblem. If you study the plates with attached faces you might be able to figure out what was on it. HH

Agreed. Don't clean the solder marks off the face. Use them as important information about what was attached to the face of the plate. Please post a close-up of the face of the plate for us, as well as a close up of the back.

Best Wishes,

Buck

New Pics of the front and back if that helps. I am pretty sure from the dots around the edges that there was a wreath around the out side. But I dont know what was in the center.

Looks like a US officers sword belt plate it is missing two silver wreathes and a Eagle in the middle. It is still a great find, n would make my day to find it. Nice job

I thought that too but Im not sure. Didn't applied eagle belt plates just have the wreath applied? I have also seen NY officer's belt plates that everything was applied and that is what I am kinda leaning towards. As I think a NY regiment stayed at this home site.

Something kinda interesting this is the 5th plate to come out of this site. The owner found the first 2 a US belt plate and a eagle breast plate along with a NY staff digging in her garden.

Thanks for the replies

Yes,the wreaths were applied and often came off,but I am not familiar with any that had a soldered on Eagle? As said there was different center pieces that were though..ie NY and such

Very nice plate.....My dumb question is how did you get the Indian to face the right?
