I'll never pass up a Coinstar machine again!

The wife was cashing in a bunch of pennies, but was a couple short. She saw a few pennies laying on top of the machine so she put them in too. Rejected. Several times she had them rejected . . . so she decided to look at the coins and this is one of them. The penny is dime size, apparently on a dime size planchet. Note the date --- looks like it also had a 6 under the 7 as well as a tail on the 9.

here's the reverse.

Any idea about the value of this coin?

Wow, that's a weird one! That's definitely one to take to a numismatist. let us now what you find out AA

It is just severely damaged. I would say it spent some time in a clothes dryer or something of the sort.

Very worn, but definitely not one of those zinc pennies. We've done that to a zinc one, but it doesn't work with a copper one. This is a 1979 mint date on top.

No not zinc. Coins get caught in dryers, especially commercial dryers, and have the edges rolled in and just plain get beat up. Definitely just damaged.

looks like it was rolled through a metal former
