Mpst of the "S" mint coins were made as Proof coins and not for distribution in circulation and as such were a lower mintage #.
 

Thanks guys....makes sense, I just couldn't understand why they weren't being circulated just as much as the others...I hadn't been paying much attention until I started seeing that all the blank spaces I needed to fill were "S".
 

Being here in Colorado almost all coins are D mint, even the old ones that have been in circulation a long time. My dad was in the military. As a kid, I'd always have him bring change home from an eastern trip, so I could pull out the P's. It seems like coins would scatter across the country, but they don't from my experience. Anyone else notice that?
 

I agree. I tend t find a fair share of S mints. Wheaties , mercs etc.

The key to S mint marks and real estate--Location, Location, Location!!
