I stopped by a local bank today and asked for half dollars.
Sorry we don't have any.
But for some reason I decided to ask... do you have any old coins? As I showed off my merc I found last night.
Well we have a bunch of old wheat pennies.
Really you know they are wheat pennies.
Oh yes.
OK I will take them
She pulled out about twenty from her drawer. I thought you had a bunch of pennies?
Oh yes an older gentleman came in last week with $50 dollars worth. He just decided he had saved them long enough. They are all rolled with the dates on each roll. One roll has the word Indian on it what ever that mean.
OH MY GOD!!!! Yes I will take all $50 worth here is my money. I waited with excited anticipation, I could NOT wait to get back and tell you guys that I got $50 worth of wheat's and Indian ones too!!!
She left and was in the back for awhile and when she returned she looked like she had seen a ghost.
OH NO what is wrong.
I am so sorry the bank manager gave them to brinks last week and they went back. I am so so sorry.
NO NO it can't be surely they are just hiding in the back some place.
Manager came out and was so apologetic that she had returned them.
My heart sank.... disappointment set in. come on you know the feeling. So I bought the twenty wheat pennies and headed to my mothers house for lunch.
While I was there I called my brother and told him the story. He is the one that talked me out of one of my boxes of half dollars. He could not believe it. I think he was almost as disappointed as I was. Naaaa probably not. He has a closet full of wheat pennies.
My mother heard me telling the story and came in and dumped a bag full of wheat pennies in my lap and said here you can have them I have been saving them for over 50 years and I don't need them. I collect one dollar bills now so add them up and just pay me face value for them. As I was counting I saw some Indian heads so I paid her more than face value and told her if I found a really good one I would sell it and split the money with her.
So at least now there is $50 worth of old wheat pennies back in circulation.
Moms are great aren't they.
Thanks
