It does look like a penknife with a broken blade

Sure it's a penknife, And a nice one at that.

. A penknife was a specialized pocketknife with one-blade opening at each end of the handle. The smaller of the two blades was used to trim and sharpen quill pens. I can remember as a kid a few "old timers" using them to "whittle" cool little figurines out of soft wood as well. :thumbsup:
