I remember seeing the name "peninsular" on an old kitchen stove..... It caught my Eye cuz I thought it said Peniscular ;D

Noticed the words "Fastener Patented" at the bottom of the plate. Wonder if this has anything to do with a contraption called the Heaton-Peninsular Button Fastener Machine made in the late 1800's? Don't know much about it, but apparently the company was involved in a lawsuit which set an important legal precedent about patents. Google "Heaton-Peninsular" and you should get some hits.

Attached in a scan of an article from page 2 of the Michigan Tradesman from Jan 21, 1885 (article reference mentioned by Jeff of PA).

PBK is correct, Peninsular Novelty Company sold button fastener devices.
