April 2009 Newsletter
Meeting: Tuesday, April 14th, 2009
Time: 7:00 P.M. sharp!
Where: The National Apple Museum
Directions: To the National Apple Museum, 154 Hanover St., Biglerville.
From Gettysburg: Go north on Rt. 34 to West Hanover St., in Biglerville, (1 block before the center square) and turn left. Proceed a short distance to the museum on the left.
From the East: Come into Biglerville on Rt. 234 to the light and turn left. Proceed for one block, then turn right on West Hanover St., and go a short distance to the museum on the left.
Program: A great multi-faceted program is planned for the evening. First we will be displaying and demonstrating the exciting new state-of-the-art metal detectors recently introduced. First, the outstanding brand new White's top-of-the-line Vision at $1499.95, or with the advanced wireless four-channel headset at $1699.95. That may be big bucks, but we'll show you how you get alot of bang for those bucks. the next new detector models, which will be available on April 6, will be shown as well. The new user-friendly Minelab Safari will also be explained. We should all keep up to date with the new advances in the hobby. In addition, Don Hinks will be explaining the proper procedures to enhance the value of items you have found with your detector. Improper procedures in cleaning and preserving your targets can greatly reduce their value. The whole program is packed with information for you, the detectorist.
Judging of Displays. Members are urged to bring displays of the items they have recovered with their detectors since our last meeting. Displays will be judged in three categories: Coins, Rings and Jewelry and Relics (Civil War or other non coin or jewelry items),Coins or other items dug at club hunts and items dug in organized paid for hunts may not be displayed. When judging, remember that not quantity alone should be considered, but rarity and condition are important. Each member may display in as many categories as he or she pleases, but do not mix up categories in a display, i.e. coins in with jewelry, or in with minie balls. This should be three displays, each judged on their own merit You must be a club member to display for prizes.
Dues. The annual membership fee of the Pen Mar Historical Recovery Association is $15.00. A membership includes a husband and wife (if married) and any children 18 years or younger. The membership is open to any person of reputable character who is willing to abide by the Constitution and By Laws of the club. The 2009 dues are valid from January 1st, 2009 to December 31st, 2009. If you would like to join the national organization The Federation of Metal Detector and Archaeological Clubs for 2009, add $5.00 onto the Pen Mar dues
Refreshments will, as usual, be available. Coffee and sodas will be provided. The rest, snacks, cakes, goodies, cookies, etc. are up to you, the members. Please bring along some goodies for all of us to enjoy. Many thanks to all of you who have been faithful in helping out with refreshments at past meetings.
