These were two of those in the group shot I showed you. I'm having a tough time deciding if just "sparkle/hits" in the base or if aventurine. Any way to tell for sure? (My mag lite just ain't doing the job for me. 2nd one came in same group. Look like a pelt slag to you? It just doesn't seem "feathery" enuf. Tx.

The first is a NLR. I can't recall the name... It's the reverse of a tiger...maybe wasp? Is it opaque?
The second, I agree that it may not be a pelt slag, but maybe an Akro.

Errr. I would have just called it a Rainbo; which means I'm still not getting the diff. Is it b/c the base isn't opaque white or transparent? (I can't figure out why I'm just not getting that after seeing so many of the darn things!!) Best I can determine the base is indeed opaque. But what kinda throws me is the red I see blending between the ribbons (best seen in top rite pic). I can't figure out how I would see that if the mib was opaque. I tried to find something online to find its name but no luck. It seems it is the reverse of a wasp if I'm understanding it correctly.

The best way I can say to tell the difference is to look at the ribbons on a rainbo... they seem like 4 ribbons until you realize it's two wide ribbons that are stretched so thin in the middle that it sometimes isn't even visible. An NLR has 4 or more distinct separate ribbons without the stretch between them. Some are easy to tell the difference, some are not. There are some we call 'tweeners because they seem to be in between a rainbo and NLR.

I posted the first pelt on LOM to see if anyone knew its name. There ended up being a discussion as to whether it is an NLR. Added a few pics. It doesn't matter either way; just wanted to hear your thots. Peltier Name?

I don't know, first impression for me was NLR. I can see why someone might argue rainbo. Many are borderline, somewhere between the two. Usually on rainbos the ribbon will fade or blend on the side that the other ribbon on the same side of the marble is on. Sometimes not so much, but some NLRs have a very similar pattern to the rainbos but with 4 distinct ribbons without the fade, so I go by that. NLRs also usually have staggered ribbon ends at the seams and rainbos often have the ribbons meeting at the same oint at the seams but not always. The glass on NLRs is usually a better glass than the rainbos, and most any 11/16" ones are usually from the NLR era.
