yesterday i picked up another three boxes of dimes in hopes of scoring another nice hit. my thinking was that if the boxes of the day before had produced so well maybe there were a few more boxes out there that were loaded. i concentrated on banks that only had CWI rolls.
at the third bank i stopped at i picked up a box and was walking out the door when i realized i hadn't checked to see if they had any half dollars. almost as an afterthought i turned and asked if they had any halves. the teller i dealt with said she didn't have any. one of the other tellers overheard me and said that she had about $4.50 in halves in her drawer. i told her i'd like to buy them. she opened a drawer and pulled them out and started counting them. as she was counting them i saw her stop.....look....flip the coin over....then flip it over again....and again.....and again. then she said, "i've never seen one like this before." she kept staring at it. i tried to give my best dejected look as i said, "oh well....*sigh*...it's okay. i'll buy that one too." i was thinking it may have been a Franklin.
i gave her my $5.00 bill and she gave me the nine halves plus two quarters. BLING!!! sitting on top was a '65 Kennedy. trying to look indifferent i didn't check the rest of the coins there in the lobby. instead, i dropped the rest into my pocket as i explained that i was really hoping for more and would like a couple hundred dollars worth. she replied that those were all they had in the bank. i asked her if they could order a box or so for me. the teller i originally got my dimes from replied that she would and that they would be in next wednesday. "thank you ma'am. i'll be in wednesday afternoon to pick them up. thank you again."
wow! i had just walked into a bank i DON'T have an account at, picked up a box of dimes, scored a '65 Kennedy and to boot, they were going to order a box of halves for me. heck, my primary bank doesn't treat me that well.
imagine my surprise when i got outside and pulled the halves from my pocket as i got into my car. second coin was a '64 Kennedy! three or four clad halves and then...BLING BLING BLING!!!! a freakin' '41 WALKIN' LIBERTY!!! no wonder she'd never seen one like that before! heck, it's been a while since I'VE seen one like that.
needless to say they'll be gettin' a box of donuts next week.
p.s. the three boxes of dimes produced only two rosies...but hey...that's part of the game too. least they weren't skunks!
