Past few months have been a bit crazy with work and the new house so it’s been a while since I’ve gotten out but boy oh boy was it worth the wait! While I was in between calls at the firehouse I’ve been making a list of properties that I wanted to hit once I got some days off before the ground freezes and it totally paid off. Ended up getting out for a few hours each of my days off the past two weeks and not only did I find some wonderful silver coins but I absolutely almost died when I pulled my bucket lister from the cold soil behind the last stop of my day. We all dream of the coins we read about, someday finding them in a freshly dug hole after hearing that sweet sound ringing in our ears, well it happened once again. In 4 hunts about 6 hrs each covering 7 small lots with dwellings on them I slowly pulled a bunch of relics, coins and some typical trash and iron tools from the soon to be frozen ground, I ended up with 4 silver coins and some cool other stuff ranging from the 1700s-present day eras, one of the cool finds was a pocket spill containing 3 silver coins(Washington,Rosie,Merc) and a wheatie, other finds from the first few spots were another silver Washington, small Silver ring weighing 3grams, a 1700s Chien-Lung Japanese coin, and unknowingly soon the bucket lister that almost stopped my heart! I was hitting my last home built in 1860s and got a funky signal right at the woods line so of course I carefully dig my hole and pop out the plug and as the dirt falls away I see the edge of what I’m thinking is a Largie, carefully I clean off the dirt and there she is!!! 1787 FUGIO CENT!!!! I literally just sat down next to the hole, lit up a smoke and said NO EFFIN WAY, I carefully placed it in a small ring box and finished up the lot finding one more Silver Washington and a few clad coins. I got home and carefully with plain water and a spray bottle cleaned off the heavy dirt on the Fugio and not only is it a rare coin and an absolute bucket lister for any detectorist, but it’s a super rare dye clash on the back making it a Newman 17-I or 21-I Variety from what I researched, absolutely unreal ! Taking it to be slabbed ASAP!! Still can’t believe it! Enjoy and happy hunting my friends!
